Two teams looking for their second win in Group D meet in this great showdown as Herbalife Gran Canaria, the top scoring team in the competition (95.5 ppg.) visits ratiopharm Ulm, which had its worst defensive performance ever in the competition last week, giving up 108 points.
Setting the right game tempo to get its many scorers involved will be critical for Gran Canaria, and that job falls to Gal Mekel and Albert Oliver, who just turned 39 last week. They will be opposed by pass-first playmaker Ismet Akipinar and scoring guard Trey Lewis (61.5 ppg.).
Gran Canaria has a lot of size with Ondrej Balvin, Luka Fischer and Anzejs Pasecniks splitting minutes at center. Isaac Fotu and Da’Sean Butler are seeing extended playing time for Ulm while center Tim Ohlbrecht is sidelined. Luke Harandogy will use his deep shooting range and experience to help Ulm at power forward against Eulis Baez and Oriol Pauli.
Gran Canaria has a lot of perimeter options, such as sharp shooter Marcus Eriksson, do-it-all swingman Shaquielle McKissic and combo guard D.J. Seeley. Butler, Ryan Thompson and Per Guenther must step up for the hosts in such challenging scenario.
