Maldonado and Báez showed enthusiasm in the opening day

Herbalife Gran Canaria began its journey this Monday.

There is no turning back. The team for the 2018/19 season started the job this Monday morning. It was a physical training directed by the physical trainer Juanjo Falcón. All players completed the practice except Chris Evans, who will arrive to Gran Canaria on Tuesday, and Marcus Eriksson, who is recovering from a knee surgery. The Finnish power-forward Alexander Madsen helped to complete the session.

The head coach Salva Maldonado spoke to the media in the Gran Canaria Arena. “We start a new season and we are excited for the adventure that is coming”. Maldonado answered a question regarding Eriksson’s injury, “the players available will be the important thing and now we must get in shape for this long season”.

The coach also spoke about the roster saying that he is “delighted”. “The players that continue in the team have a motive and we want them to be here. And the newcomers are players that will help us to build a good team”.

The Catalan will lead a group of players that will make history for the Club. For the first time, the Grancanarian team will participate in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. “We cannot divert attention because every week we will play in the best European competition. We will face it with great enthusiasm and try to win games knowing who we are, but anyone will beat us in excitement”.

Báez, that he will continue being the captain of the team, was very funny but direct in his speech. “The sun is over, the chicken is over. We know need to start working hard, the team has got almost everyone in the island, and we are really excited, I have butterflies in my stomach”.

Eulis talked about the new group that the team has formed “ I always say the same: every team is different, we have to adapt for what we have and see how we are going to work it out. We need the same illusion we always have. We have lots of players now, so this will help us in our work day by day”.

Journalists asked him about the quantity of games this year the team has to play, “this is our job, we need to be well organized, I imagine that our physical trainer will help us and we will see how the trainings are with our new coach Salva”.

Lastly, the yellow power forward didn’t renounce to any match yet. “Every game that comes, should be competed. We know that we aren’t used to play in Euroleague, but we need to focus that is one more game. We should not be obsessed in thinking which teams are the best or the worst, we just have to go out and do it the best we can”.
